Sandboxels redefines the falling-sand sandbox simulation genre by turning your web browser into an open-ended physics laboratory. There are no restrictive storylines, scores, or mandatory missions. Every pixel obeys fundamental physical laws. Gravity causes sand to pile up, liquids naturally flow into depressions, and lighter gases rise.

Intricate Chemical Reactions

They are not simply heaped one on top of the other. But mix the appropriate stuff together, and they combine to become new substances, or explode, or melt, or go up in flames - spectacularly.

Gameplay Mechanics and Creative Tools

Start by selecting a category, picking an element, and painting it onto the blank canvas. The static image springs to life the moment you begin interacting with the specialized toolset:

Basic Controls

Hold Left-Click and drag to place material; click to select an element or tool.

Manipulation Tools

The toolbar allows you to alter the environment instantly. Use Heat or Cool to incinerate or freeze everything; Shock to conduct electricity; Smash to shatter structures; or Mix to blend particles together. If things get out of hand, the Erase tool helps you clean up the mess.

Tips for the Mad Scientist

Don't run out and dump tonnes of chemicals together. Try dropping a few pixels and see how they react, get a feel for the physics, then go nuts.

Use strong materials to make barriers. Isolating regions makes it easier to control fire, chemicals or gas.

The nature of matter can be changed by temperature. A small spark can start a chain reaction, if not controlled, that burns the whole map.

Don't only mess around with separate items, but mix earth, water, plants, heat sources and gas to create a thriving ecosystem.
